Fishing gear, Fly fishing, and Equipment
When
it comes to fishing, there are probably as many different opinions about
the best way to fish as there are fishermen. Despite this, there are
two main types of fishermen. One type embraces the technology developed
to make fishing easier. The other type keeps fishing as simple as possible.
There are a few advantages as well as disadvantages associated with
each of these schools of thinking. They include:
Technology Embracers
• Advantages – For those people who have
a goal to catch as many fish as possible in a short amount of time,
technology is a great thing. Typically these people will use fishing
rods that allow them to use some of the newest and best developed lures.
Likewise, these people will use items like sonar to have a better idea
to know where they should look for fish. Their fishing gear is typically
as advanced as gear can be.
• Disadvantages – Although having the nicest
fishing gear can be an advantage, paying for the nicest fishing gear
can be anything but an advantage for a lot of people. The fact is that
those people who are hoping to keep up with the latest and greatest
fishing equipment, like fishing tackle and fishing rods, will need to
pay for it. Another of the disadvantages in fishing for these people
is the fact that there is a lot to remember before they can fish. For
them, it is not as simple as grabbing a fishing pole and a bucket of
worms. They must carefully check to make sure they have all the fishing
equipment they need before they head out the door.
Traditionalists
• Advantages – One of the biggest advantages
to being a traditionalist when it comes to fishing is that it can be
a peaceful, relaxing thing. Some people love nothing more than being
able to sit in a boat on a lazy lake or cast their fly into rushing
waters without needing to worry about all kinds of extra distractions.
These are the people who look at fishing as a time of peace and solitude.
If they catch a fish, that is just a bonus.
These people often use fly fishing gear and fly fishing rods to fish.
They find tying fishing knots to be peaceful and can spend hours working
with their fly fishing reels and other fly fishing equipment.
• Disadvantages – If the idea of fishing
is to be able to catch as many fish as possible, then the traditionalists
probably are not going about accomplishing this goal in the right way.
When it comes to things like fishing tackle and fishing bait, traditionalists
typically use the same things they have been using for years and years.
Although they are usually comfortable with these items, they typically
do not progress at all in their fishing skills because they continue
to do the same thing over and over.
While each type of fisherman is aware of the advantages and disadvantages
of his preferred method, it is rare that a fisherman will simply change
over to another style. He will, however, periodically try to do things
in a different way just for the sake of variety.
